A Note from the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

Dear School Community,

As the DSL, I hold the lead responsibility for Safeguarding and Child Protection at South Devon Steiner School.
Gaby Wood, Safety Guarding
Gaby Wood, Designated Safeguarding Lead
In the last few years, we have significantly raised awareness of the importance of Safeguarding and Child Protection among staff and parents.  We are educating our learners about healthy relationships, celebrate and welcome difference and foster a sense of wellbeing by focusing on positive relationships between pupils and pupils and staff.

If you have a concern or are worried about a child at our school, please do not hesitate to contact me or a member of the Safeguarding Team. You have our assurance of swift action and
appropriate confidentiality.

Worried about a child’s safety?
As a response to Covid-19 lockdown and subsequent lack of school provision this government guidance was published 25 June 2020:
Advice to parents and carers on keeping children safe from abuse and harm

If you feel that your child is in immediate danger, call the police on 999. You can report concerns to the police on their non-emergency number, 101.

Call the NSPCC helpline for support and advice if you have a concern for your own or another child’s safety on 0808 800 5000. You can also contact, social care through the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) on 0345 155 1071 or email mashsecure@devon.gov.uk and give as much information as you can.

If you concern/allegation involves an adult working with children, in which case you should
contact the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) service: Email: ladosecure-mailbox@devon.gov.uk

If you want to find out more about recognising the warning signs of child abuse, finding support and keeping children safe and healthy, the Devon Children and Families Partnership (DCFP) provides clear and useful information, as well as signposting to other resources.
The following organisations can also offer advice and information if you are concerned about a child:
  • NSPCC T 0808 800 5000
  • Childline T 0800 1111
