Parents, Parental Involvement & Volunteering
One of the defining aspects of our school is the strong engagement of the parents. Engagement is both a highly enjoyable social aspect of school life, and also a requirement for all parents deemed a non-financial contribution.
The school works to involve and support parents through regular parents' evenings, lectures, talks, and discussions. Examples of parents' non-financial contribution include classroom cleaning, termly school workdays, involvement in the summer and advent fairs, school outings, class picnics, volunteering in the school shop, harvesting vegetables in the school's biodynamic gardens, parent plays and more. The student experience is enriched by the committed participation of parents who contribute their time and energy in countless ways. How do parents help? Volunteering at South Devon Steiner School: Parents help to maintain the school facilities by attending termly Community Work Days and hold roles such as Class Coordinator and Fizz Representative. Parents may also be asked to support teachers by helping on class trips, maintaining classrooms and more. Events & Fundraising: Parents are instrumental in making school-wide events such as the annual Advent Fair a success. Parents raise funds for the school in a variety of ways. Institutional Service: Parents serve in leadership roles on the Board of Trustees. |
