Online Safety

Children and young people have been brought up with the internet and most use technology intuitively, often showing their parents how to use it. Being online enables children and young people to socialise, learn and experience many things in a variety of different ways. It is therefore important for parents and educators to jointly work together to give young people the knowledge and skills to navigate the internet safely, understand some of the risks, and apply strategies that will keep themselves and others safe.

At South Devon Steiner school pupils will be taught about online safety as part of the curriculum. We use the Education for a Connected World framework to support the delivery of Online Safety within the pastoral curriculum with regular topical discussion and revisiting of knowledge and understanding of the online world.

Topics covered are age-appropriate, and support our pupils in navigating the online world in a safe and secure environment.

1. Self-image and Identity
2. Online relationships
3. Online reputation
4. Online bullying
5. Managing online information
6. Health, well-being and lifestyle
7. Privacy and security
8. Copyright and ownership
