Community Service & Mentorship
Community Service is Part of the School Experience
Our Upper School students are invited to contribute to the whole school through community service, often in practical ways such as taking care of their learning environment, helping with fundraising and even planning and building new facilities such as the new Kindergarten forestry hut and storage shed completed during Spring term 2017.
Students also connect with exterior organisations of interest through the South Devon area. Whatever the choice, our students begin to see themselves as engaged citizens who can make a difference.
The Upper School helps students identify programmes of interest and supports them as they volunteer at least eighty hours over four years (twenty hours each year).
Academic Advising
Each student is paired with an individual mentor. The mentor monitors academic progress and guides students through the upper school years. Advisors strive to develop strong relationships with the students and help them become their own advocates.
Individual mentors also track and review student progress with colleagues across the Upper School. Though they do not generate written reports, parents are encouraged to contact the Individual Mentor with questions or concerns about their student’s overall academic and school life.
Each class also has a Class Sponsor. These teachers guide a class through the years and lead parent meetings.
