Attendance

In order for students to make the best possible progress at school it is essential that they have a good attendance record.

At South Devon Steiner School attendance is closely monitored by the school’s Attendance Team, Teachers and the Senior Leadership Team.

To access the Government's Statutory guidance for School Attendance: School Attendance Parent Responsibility Measures.

If your child has an unavoidable appointment during the school day, your child must bring a letter or appointment card which is to be taken to the School Office. Your child will sign out and back in upon return to school. Students will not be permitted to leave the site without a letter or appointment card.
Where possible, we would ask that appointments be made out of school hours so your child’s learning is not disrupted. Non-essential appointments will be unauthorised.

Absence during term time will only be authorised in exceptional circumstances and if permission is sought in advance. Please put your request in writing to the Education Manager at least 6 weeks in advance.

REPORTING AN ABSENCE
To report an absence please contact:

T: 01803-897377 option 1 or via EMAIL: enquiries@steiner-south-devon.org by 9.00am on each day of absence.

Please state:
  • The name of the student
  • Class (this is important)
  • Specific reason for absence.
When students return to school they must have an absence note to give to their teacher, even if someone has already telephoned the school, because they are filed on the student’s attendance record.

SDSS operates a calling home safety system.
If for any reason you do not call in or email student absences, a member of the Attendance Team will notify you of your child’s absence from school and try to ascertain the reason for their absence.

Punctuality
Punctuality is monitored by the school and parents will be contacted if their child is not arriving on time. Persistent lateness will result in school sanctions.
